Blazer Russet is a early-maturing potato. It is good for processing and fresh market sales with good boiling, frying and baking qualities. It is widely adapted to the western U.S. and performs especially well in the SLV. The plant is fast emerging with a large upright vine and white flowers; it has a semi determinate growth habit with a deep root system; it is resistant to hail. Tubers are white flesh, long to slightly oblong with medium to heavy russeted skin. Eyes are shallow, numerous and well distributed. Blazer russet has good resistance to most diseases and little problems with internal and external defects. It is resistant to sugar ends, common and powdery scab of the tuber, and PVX. It is moderately resistant to blackspot bruise and tuber late blight. Blazer Russet has moderate susceptibility to hollow heart. Blazer also has excellent resistence to drought and does better under slight under irrigation.
