Trip to Washington D.C. You Probably can't get this close to the White House anymore, Lincoln Memorial.
Side trip to Mount Republican in Newburg, MD, where my godparents live. Part of the farmland and woods that are part of the old pre-revolutionary war era plantation of Mount Republican.

Stratford Hall in Virginia. One of the old great plantations of the old south. Built in 1730 by Thomas Lee, it is the birthplace of Robert E. Lee. It is now restored as a working plantation of the era.. "Hands" of tobbacco grown at Mount Republican. This is how tobacco is traditionally prepared for sale in the area.

Mount Rushmore in South Dakotah. It was started in 1927 and completed in 1941, Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt were carved into a granite outcropping in the Black hills of South Dakotah. Each head is 60 foot tall.

Some of the black hills of South Dakotah. Another monument to erosion. The corn palace in Mitchell, SD. Its a high school auditorium that's decorated each year since 1892 on the outside with murals made up of corn, wheat, sorghum and grasses.

To the left, Devils Tower in Wyoming featured in the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind. It is a volcanic extrusion more than 1,200 ft high. Also know as Mateo Tipila to the northern plains Indians.

Above is the grand entrance dance to a Powwow in Wisconsin. Below are some of the participants in this powwow.

To the right is a typical barn and field from Wisconsin. Red barn with hay stored above and the cows below and silo for feed as well. Pumpkins above also from Wisconsin. Below to the left is one of the many lakes in Northern Wisconsin at sunset. Directly below me fishing on a lake in Northern Wisconsin for Muskie or Northerns.

Grand Canyon National Park. Another monument to erosion. I've been there five times now and it still amazes me every time.

Above is a scene along Hwy 1 along the coast of California near Big Sur.

Mammoth Springs in Yellowstone park. In the winter these hot springs and their mineral deposits and pools really steam.

The hot springs melting their way through the snow. Most of Yellowstone park is closed in the winter but snow coaches can be taken to areas like old faithfull. There are no crowds in the off season.

This area is hard to get to but worth the visit. Its another monument to erosion.
Hanging lake near Glenwood Springs Colorado. A yurt in the Colorado Mountains. You can rent these and cross country ski to them in the winter.
Shaw lake near where I live in the San Juan Mountains in Colorado. Sand Dunes park in the San Luis Valley, Colorado. They are the biggest sand dunes in the U.S.

Taos, New Mexico. These pueblos of old adobe towns are found in New Mexico.
